Caniaba is a rural area in northern NSW with a 2011 census population of 578. The nearest centre is Lismore, 11 kms to the east, passing the Lismore airport en route. The location’s central point is the Perradenya housing estate made up of 168 lots (image below). This estate consists of open spaces, native remnant vegetation and important wildlife corridors.
The aim of Caniaba Landcare is to incorporate these natural assets into a local plan to form linkages to the south east, east and west. The greatest portion of Caniaba is located on a ridge which forms part of the Pelican Creek catchment. This is a sub catchment of the greater Richmond River.
